SPV

SPV, a German-based record label, has been a vital player in the music industry for 17 years. Founded in 1984 by its current managing director, Manfred Schütz, the label has established itself as one of the four most significant independent record companies in Germany and among the ten most successful record companies in Europe. With a catalog of over 4,500 products and a roster of talented artists, SPV has contributed significantly to the development of numerous bands and multiple trends.

SPV's European office employs approximately 85 staff members and has all the equipment and facilities required by a record company, with the exception of its CD manufacturing plant. The label has its legal department, promotion division, artist and repertoire (A&R) department, export and data-processing departments, and a graphic design unit that produces all the artwork, from ads to CD booklets, as well as its stock-keeping and central warehouse.

From the start, SPV played a pivotal role in shaping the heavy metal scene. As distributors for Roadrunner Records, the label helped introduce new artists like Metallica, Anthrax, and Slayer to Germany while developing the market with its own signings, such as Sodom, Destruction, and Metal Church. SPV's sub-imprint, Steamhammer, which was founded around that time, is now the leading metal label worldwide and remains a significant part of the metal movement.

SPV's orientation towards Europe and the world has been a key factor in its development. While Germany is one of the most important music markets globally, SPV has always emphasized the development and promotion of a Europe-wide network. This approach has enabled the label to release the repertoire of a particular artist in all European countries, from Finland to Portugal and from Greece to Iceland.

The label's current roster boasts numerous talented artists, including MSG (Michael Schenker Group). Their album, "Be Aware Of Scorpions," features newly discovered vocalist Chris Logan, along with bassist Rev Jones and drummer Jeff Martin. The album's first track, "No Turning Back," has the potential to become a new MSG classic. The album also features in-your-face songs like "Because I Can" and "Blinded By Technology," which are typical MSG standards, both exciting and new while remaining true to Schenker's roots with UFO and Scorpions. Ballads like "On Your Way" and "Be Aware Of Scorpions" showcase Schenker's ability to combine the force of his Flying V with his acoustic sensitivity.

Glenn Hughes, another talented artist on SPV's roster, has always crossed musical boundaries. Since 1973, when he was enlisted by Deep Purple as their bassist and vocalist, Hughes has brought out numerous solo albums that stylistically reflect his moods in rock, metal, funk, and soul. Hughes' current album, "Building The Machine," is another colorful mix of diverse styles, with his characteristic voice standing out repeatedly.

In conclusion, SPV is off to a great start after expanding its efforts for American distribution. With its history of pioneering heavy metal music and developing numerous talented artists, the label has established itself as one of the most prominent independent record companies in Germany and Europe. As it continues to promote its artists worldwide and expand its reach, SPV's future in the music industry looks bright.
